Don’t you just love Saturday? It’s the day you get to spend in a church worshiping your maker. I make a bad hypocrite because I’m not in church. I didn’t even go to church and now it’s too late. I’m at Mochachoes. I’ve been here for over an hour waiting for Jeffrey. We planned to meet at 17:00 on the dot and now it’s a little after 19:30. Speak of the devil and here he is. He looks around until he meets my eyes then rushes over to where I’m sitting. “Tony, you know the time I was calling you I had already parked my bag.†He pulls a wooden chair and sits across me, he’s already giving me some bad excuse as to why he’s late. Not that I mind because I had nothing else to do at home. “I wanted to lock up the shop when that ka short man came in.†The ka short man he’s talking about is a client who has been giving him problems for a while now. Jeffrey had sold an HP laptop to this client that was kind of faulty. Unfortunately this man had a temper comparable to his height, short. “What did he want this time? Just give him another laptop.†“You, he wants money. He doesn’t want another machine, he just wants money.†Jeffrey had offered him many alternatives but the man just wanted his money back. Not that it was a lot of money to begin with so Jeffrey couldn’t give him a better laptop. “So today when he came he was busy complaining, saying next he’s coming with the police. He’s the one who delayed me because I had to sort him out. Ah, some of these clients are stupid.†“Did you give him his money back?†“No. First I have to sale that machine, that’s when I’ll give him his money back.†“So this fight is what took you over two hours to get here?†I can clearly tell that the young man seated across me isn’t telling me the whole truth. Even if he tells me what he was doing that made him get here so late, it won’t change anything. “He was being stupid. I almost punched him.†“Never mind. Let’s just order some food.†This conversation isn’t going to take us anywhere so it’s best we just move on to other more important things. The waitress got our orders and within five minutes two plates filled with what looks like three slices of pizza were now on our table. But this is not pizza and Jeffrey is obsessed with this stuff. “You, I haven’t been eating properly. This is the first thing I’m eating today.†He says as he shoves the food in his mouth. I take a piece and throw it in my mouth. It’s tastes like an over glorified sharwama. Sharwama is only K30 and this plate is K100, I’ve had sharwamas that taste way better than this. “Why is this your first meal of the day?†“Mmh Tony I’m busy. I don’t even have time to see Mercy anymore and she’s always complaining.†Mercy, Jeffrey’s “soulmateâ€. I don’t believe in love anymore but these two make me think that there’s still hope. They are obsessed with each other, I don’t know how many times they’ve broken up and gotten back together. “But her breasts are becoming too much now.†“What do you mean they are becoming too much?†What an interesting conversation to have while sharing a meal. The good thing is that at this hour this place is almost empty so I don’t have to worry about people giving me weird looks after hearing what he’s saying. “Like they are becoming too big, you know?†“How am I supposed to know?†Talk about being ungrateful, his woman has been blessed with a good body and this fool is complaining. I feel a sudden temptation to punch him but he’d kill me. I may be taller than him but I’m skinny and he’s got a big muscular body. “You, she’s been going for rehearsals because her sister is getting married. We are both busy but she just wants to talk to me all the time.†“Since she’s on the wedding line up, shouldn’t you be the one to dance with her?†“I don’t have time for that, ah Tony I’m just too busy for such things.†“If you say so.†“But you know, she’s been posting the ka boy she’s dancing with on the line up on her status.†“You think something is going on between them?†Someone’s jealous. I hope his girl has changed though, there was so much drama between them in the past that I wonder why they are still together. “You, I just said she’s been posting him. I didn’t say there’s something between them, what’s wrong with you?†“By the way, were you able to sell the accer laptop?†I bought this particular accer laptop off someone for a really low price. I wanted to flip it so that most of the profits could be added to the business but it’s been two months now. “You, I told you I’m still waiting for Mr Michael.†“Yes that’s what you said, but what is Mr Michael doing with the laptop?†“I told you that when he came to the shop he said he wanted me to look for twenty pieces. I was able to find someone with fifteen pieces, I added the laptop you gave me to make them sixteen.†“What about the other four?†“I told him he should source from someone else. Do you know how hard it was just to find those fifteen pieces at that price?†Looks like talk about the accer laptop won’t lead us anywhere for now. “Yeah yeah. Anyway what’s this about?†I know this young man all too well. We just can’t come here to enjoy a good meal like this unless he’s got something major to tell me. Now that I think about it he’s been complaining about having stressful stressful days and that some people are not delivering on their promises but he’s actually in a good mood. “Tony, can’t we just sit down and enjoy some Mochachoes?†“Get to the point Jeffrey.†He laughs and throws another slice in his mouth. “So there’s something. Something big Tony.†He pulls out he’s phone and starts scrolling on some random website that has piles of computers. “Okay so I found out where Mr Joddy gets his katundu from. This website called B2B, by the way don’t tell anyone.†What an interesting website. Jeffrey and I were getting our laptops either from eBay or from other local sellers. The local ones usually had major defects and had to be worked on. The ones on eBay were expensive, and I don’t even want to think about that shipping fee. “Congratulations on finding a source Jeffrey but there’s one small problem.†I paused bit before I could finish talking. I took the phone from his greasy fingers and looked carefully at the contents on the screen, and the problem. “Jeffrey these are expensive.†The website required a lot with a minimum of 1000 pieces. If each one of these laptops were to be sold for at least K4,000 each, we were looking at a net profit of... “Over 2 Million!†I gasp. “Yes Tony. We can finally start making proper money.†Jeffrey took the time to explain the logistics, the handling, the target clientele and so on and so forth, but he failed to mention how we were going to generate at least one million to make the buy and handle the shipping and storage. Jeffrey’s shop is too small, plus he’s sharing the space with someone else. “It’s a good idea but how are we going to generate over one million to make the purchase? We are worth less than K100,000.†That’s the scary bit. He has a good plan but I don’t think we can come up with a million, even if we said we’d start saving up to generate that money, it will still take a few years. “I’m working on it. But what do you think, should we do it?†I would consider myself a fool to turn down the chance to make a million. You know what they say, ‘Making your first million is way harder than making 10 million when you already have a million. “Alright, if you can figure out where we can get a million to invest then I’m on board. I’m done here, I want to go home.†“You relax, what are you rushing for?†“Prince’s daughter is living with me so I have head back early.†“Oh.†He seems sad after hearing what I just said. I guess I just killed the mood. “When is the last time you saw Joy?†“It’s been a while now.†“Tony, you have to move on. Okay, do this, try calling Iness and—†“I have to go now, let me know how things go.†I get up and take my leave. Jeffrey calls to me a few times but I ignore him, he brought up a touchy subject that I didn’t want to get into.
